Free Pitch Shifter & Audio Speed Changer

Raise or lower the key of a song, or make a recording faster or slower, without one changing the other. Your file is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.

Online Pitch & Tempo Adjustment Tool

Pitch and speed are set independently here: you can transpose a song by a few semitones and keep its tempo, or speed up a recording and keep the voice at its normal pitch.

What Can You Do with the Pitch & Speed Changer?

  • Change the key: move the pitch up or down by up to 12 semitones (one octave). The length and the tempo stay the same.
  • Change the speed: play the audio at 0.5x to 2x. The pitch stays the same, so voices do not turn deep or squeaky.
  • Do both at once: for example, slow a song to 0.8x to practice it and lower it two semitones to suit your voice.

How Far Can You Go?

Small changes sound the most natural. Up to about 3 semitones, or at speeds between 0.75x and 1.25x, most material stays clean. Beyond that, the processing becomes audible: voices sound thinner or heavier when they are shifted far, because their character moves with the pitch, and dense music can sound slightly grainy at extreme speeds. That is true of every pitch and tempo tool, so use the smallest change that does the job. If you want speed and pitch to change together, like a record played slower, use the Slowed + Reverb Maker instead.

7 Perfect fifth C to G
12 Octave C to the next C

Who Is It For?

Singers moving a backing track into a comfortable key, musicians slowing down a passage to learn it, DJs and producers matching a sample to the key or tempo of a project, and podcasters or students speeding up a long recording. To find out which key and tempo a track has, use the BPM & Key Analyzer; to see which note a frequency is, the Frequency to Note Converter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change the key of a song without changing the speed?

Open the song and move the Pitch slider: each step is one semitone. The Speed slider stays at 1.00x, so the tempo and the length do not change.

How many semitones do I need to change key?

Count the steps between the two keys on a keyboard, black keys included. From C to D is 2 semitones, from C to E is 4, and from C to G is 7. A full octave is 12.

Why does a voice sound unnatural after a big pitch change?

Shifting the pitch also shifts the resonances that give a voice its character. A few semitones are fine; beyond that, voices start to sound like a different person, thinner when shifted up and heavier when shifted down.
